i saw this trailer before i saw this post, and instantly your character slice demo popped into my mind. Either this is one huge coincidence, or they really did get the idea from you.

I watched Blood: The Last Vampire, I think they were copying as well.
It also seemed they were using PhysX fluids for there blood effects…:-)
